The Dissertation at Level 6 is a classical piece of undergraduate academic research. As such it starts with a review of the literature in a chosen area of interest connected to the relevant professional arena. The literature review shapes the practical research which will be undertaken in a specific place of work, however at this level, the student will be aware of the limitations in reliability and validity that this involves. The analysis and discussion will crucially refer back to the review of the literature relating the students’ findings to the existing body of knowledge in the relevant area. Recommendations to develop and improve practice should relate to practice in the relevant area in general (that is beyond the immediacy of the setting) and should also inform development and improvement in personal practice and leadership potential.
