The constant monitoring and recording in the early – year settings, known as conducting observations in early year’s settings, are sometimes ignored considering it as time – consuming. A wealthy amount of people remain busy in other tasks obligatory by the agencies such as parents, committee or governors, government, and local “educational authorities,” particularly due to the shortage of time (Wall, 2010, pp. 103-105). Nevertheless, the power and usefulness of assessment and observation cannot be denied. For example, observation and assessment can enable both the child and the practitioner:

  • informed understanding of the current competence levels of a child
  • informed planning
  • reflection on the suitability of provision
  • assessment of a specific group of children, their interactions, groups, the learning staff and environment
  • sharing the information with other parties
  • development of the personality of a child
