Sucrose - a non reducing sugar

Sucrose is a disaccharide molecule since it is composed of two sugar molecules i.e. glucose and fructose.

Glucose and fructose molecules are joined together by α-(1,2)- glycosidic bond.

It has molecular formula C₁₂H₂₂O_11.

One molecule of water is lost during the condensation reaction between α –glucose and β-fructose.

Sucrose is known as a table sugar and it is a disaccharide molecule.

Sucrose is a non-reducing sugar  since it does not have a free keto or aldehyde group so it is referred as a non-reducing sugar.
